"Images of Eden", painting of the Cuyahoga Valley Watershed by Julie Holman and an excerpt from the book by Scott Myers called "Eden Unbound"

The Ledges, 2022

Acrylic on canvas

Hiking through the ledges you get a sense of the immense scale of time that gave this region its unique geology and grandeur. Layers of smooth sandstone that was deposited under ancient oceans lie below the Sharon conglomerate, a sedimentary rock made of course mix of sand and gravel that was brought down from the north.

Bluebells in the Valley, 2023

Acrylic on canvas

The rich silt laid down by the river is an ideal place for abundant wildflowers to flourish. Virginia Bluebells are a delight in the early spring and attract many pollinators like bees and moths.

Salamander Migration, 2023

Acrylic on canvas

One of the most exciting nights in the Cuyahoga Valley is when the weather is just right, around 50 and rainy, and under the deafening trill of wood frogs and spring peepers salamanders migrate from their vernal pools and move into the forest.

Overlooking the Oxbow, 2023

Acrylic on canvas

Over eons the Cuyahoga River evolved, cutting its channel through ancient rocks laid down by seas that once covered the land. The oxbow carved into this, exposing these layers of sandstone and conglomerate, and displaying its history layer by layer. The spectacular overlook shows this process, and the flora and fauna that came to call it home.
